HILLARY MISHCON

"Garden Girl"
This painting was an opportunity for me to have some fun and play with a different style and medium than I was used to. Art is about experimentation and expression and I found so much joy while working on this painting. I was drawing inspiration from the stylized fauna of Henri Rousseau, the feminine power of Frida Kahlo, and the long, exaggerated lines of renaissance goddesses. I certainly am not claiming my work exists on the same plane of existence as such great masters, but I enjoyed trying to incorporate elements of their work into my own practice. I made this painting during a time of major emotional and personal growth and the garden felt like an expression of the renewal I was seeking in my own life.
